How it's calculated
Make percentage comes from ShotLink's recorded putt distances: every putt attempted from within the stated range, divided into those holed. It is a raw conversion rate rather than a difficulty-adjusted one, so it makes no allowance for green speed, slope or whether the putt was for birdie or bogey.
How to read it
Higher is better, but the figure makes no allowance for how difficult the putts were.
What it doesn't say
A make percentage is not a measure of putting skill on its own, because it takes no account of how hard the putts were. Two players with identical numbers from 5-10 feet may have faced completely different putts on different greens. Short-range percentages also cluster tightly at tour level, so small differences are mostly noise; the long-range figure is low for everybody, and a high one usually reflects a small sample rather than an unusual gift.
